I've been revising old poetry in the hopes of finally putting a book together. I have picked this one for a good reason. In case my absenteeism puzzles you. They have found a tumor in my lung believed to be cancer. I will go through surgery on the 15th of this month. We hope it all goes well and your prayers are indeed, needed. This poem is one of hope and so, I've done my revisions, and I offer it to you today.

The Seed of Hope

The old man stood at the edge of a snowy path,
and in a moment's madness retraced his steps
seeking to understand his journey’s wrath.

“No more,” he said, “I’m tired Lord. No more!”
And so he prayed for death to come his way
and in mercy, end his empty days on earth.

But he still looked back – over his shoulder.
He remembered sowing his seed in spring,
and in the summertime, watching his kernel grow.

He remembered dreaming of the harvest,
trusting autumn’s gold would shine some day,
and he felt renewed as he did back then.

But on his journey’s end, the bitter winter of his life,
his heart was gouged by a blade honed with irony,
for his seed had perished in infertile ground.

And he stood at the edge of that dark, snowy path,
taking an embittered glimpse at the past. Nothing to show,
but a sack of dreams dangling empty from his back.

“No more,” he said again; closed his eyes, then turned
to the silver sky and shouted his anger with might:
“I’m tired, Lord; take me home. Take me now!”

Then, his gaze fell on a snow-laden pine. Icy crystals
trickling down its limbs, quenched natures thirst for life,
and he would sow the seed of hope, one more time.

Something lonely about that picture...And the cold amplifies it so. But the seeds of hope bring back the beauty of nature. Beautiful expression, Carmen...you remain in my prayers and hopes that you will be well.

Seeing this picture makes me think of the coolness of winter, and how it slows us down just long enough (like your poem did) to think about the simpler finer things we sometimes miss.

Anyone too busy to slow down will be stopped by nature eventually. We may as well enjoy life while we can.

blessin's, and much love, we miss you here in Muncie Sis! Call me sometime,

And my hope on hearing this, is with you, too, dear Carmen. Something brought me here this morning--only after the fact to learn of it. I pray you've made it through, and read this--and let us know good news.

Carmen, I was a few times that old man saying "no más" because I was at the end of my teeter.
Then again, I remember one that keep falling and didn't stay down but kept raising again and again until He reached the sky.
All be well with you, it needs to be, because your life are lying on many pilars made with the prayers of all your friends.
Acuérdese las palabras del Martín Fierro...sea fuerte y tenga fe.

O, Carmen, it is good to see you again; but I am sorry about the news regarding your health. I will be praying hard for you, that Jesus removes it and that the surgery (if needed) is a success! Hope is indeed what gives us the strength to go on in mitigating circumstances. Faith can move mountains; I know. I've been there, and I will continue to rely on God when things get to me. God be with you when you have your surgery, and rely on God to get you through this valley. Very well penned, Carmen!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

Hope is the substance of things longed for and faith in hope is the reason we receive prayers and answers. I have you in prayer and I wish his peace of all understanding to be a comfort during this trying time for your life Dear Carmen. This poem is reflective and beautiful full of inspiring hope for many.
Blessings & Respect,
Joselyn
