poem speaks for itself

Poem Artwork

O, America, my father’s country,
Of thee I sing...

“In God We Trust”, you loudly proclaim,
Calling fervently on the holy name,
But did the god you trust frame sky and palisade
Or have you substituted one in your image made?

The holy book you flutter about
“Born again” you loudly shout
But do you understand the prophet’s rage
Against unjust measures and the stolen wage?

“Blessed are the poor” the saviour said
But in you the poor are better dead.
Acquisition, greed, theft your values seem
To the starving world whose billions teem.

Be not proud of empire, strength, or benison
Others have boasted of these and are gone.
Chosen Israel. Stiff necked and proud;
Fabled Babylon; Assyria, the bold;

Egypt, the ancient; Carthage, the up-start;
Rome, the road builder; Greece, of the arts.
Ottoman Turk, Austro-Hungarian, British,
Aztec, French, Mongolian all vanished.

“God Bless America” you glibly say--
I will not join in that prayer today.
“God Save America” I will state,
And pray, to my Lord, that it is not too late

"Acquisition, greed, theft your values seem
To the starving world whose billions teem." -and to many here as well. My political views have never been radical before, but hypocrisy is perhaps the greatest evil - especially when most of the world sees through it. Blessings to those brave enough to speak out. Thank you.
