It happened again
the rhythm of spinning
wood and the sweet
song of the well
sharpened gouge have
driven all thought of
time from me.
Turning is to woodcraft
as poetry is to writing.
It doesn’t pay the bills
like boxes, racks, or
“true confessions” – but
nothing in the shop
is more sensual,
more soul satisfying
than the interplay
of steel and wood
on the turning lathe.
So, once again
the sweet song of
well sharpened steel,
the rhythm of the lathe,
have wooed me away
from consideration
of things that pay.

Somehow bills get paid.. or not! (smile) But you, sir, have validated many of us by cleverly and wonderfully writing that which we all already know: 'life is short'.. enjoy it whatever way you can. This is absolutely charming. katy.
