This is an examination of self and the grasp for the second chance and the spiritual way the Universe has of taking care of her own.

I could have fallen further as I jacknifed and drowned
Preferring to be clueless to all that did abound
Here I stood grasping images... maps of distant places
Searching all my yesterdays among lines of tired old faces
With no inclination of what tomorrow brings
I lept into this abyss of pain and rusted things
I called upon my anger... this frustrated old soul
To this die'n individual with no inner goaI
Succumbing to life's cling and just grabbing at her straws
Knowing I was weaker because of all my scars
Putting all my anger and inner light aside
Preferring Hell's Chariot as a simpler way to ride
Down to despair and darkness... to the hole of nothingness
Down much deeper to the pitch to find the me in us
In a faint light it opened with no second chance for doubt
To literal suggestion I wrote my burning out
I quilled the final answer when my road stopped at strife
Came upon a second chance to redefine my life
I can see the focus now of eyes there looking back
And just because pains have a past when license is but lack
My sight is through a fog now to sunny smiles and things
Among a map of all my truths to the spirit's inner ring
Living now is graceful with an extra beat in here
For history repairs itself when wisdom has no fear
Then out of acid springs the sweet... the sugar of all pleasing
When love floats up with all the tears and donates all the reasons
Then open skies allow the soars of fetile birth and flying
When love abounds and dresses down the negative of die'n.
Susan, When one has fallen as low as can be, then that becomes the time to be uplifted and rejuvenated. We are as a river flows, when the riverbed is dry nourishment from the rain is so needed to quench our thirst. Thank goodness you have found your drink of life! Here's to a very healthy and happy New Year!
Much peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"
Graphic and words complement each other wonderfully, Susan, and I like this refreshing and honest contribution to the end-of-year musings. Written with your usual sharp attention to detail and strong rhythm, it is permeated with de Vegter grit, determination and integrity. Love how you tackle things head-on. Yes, central to a strong and fully vibrant life is the healthy core of facing up to and dealing with our shadows, griefs and mortality. We feel trapped in a perpetual state of flux when fear and timidity prevents us from taking actions necessary to set ourselves straight, and becomes a way of life for many. Thank you for this inspiration to make 2010 a year for fundamental challenge and change. Bless you, Kate xx
"If we aren't busy living, we are busy dying."--Bob Dylan. Wonderful, insightful perspective of pushing on through to the other side. So glad you are better, sweetie.
Truly magnificent write, and beautiful image, Susan; very nice! Well done; and I concur with George (below): "Thank God for second chances." AMEN on that one!
