I’ve been putting the finishing touches on a poetic saga titled “WANDERIN & WONDERIN.” This poem was written on behalf of the main character in that yet to be completed story. It’s strictly fiction.

The Wanderin Man is speaking....

“When I’m out on the road, which has been most of the last 20 years, I like to spend my evenins working on my songs. Most of them have never bin put to music an they’re little more than rhymes about different situations I’ve run into durin my wanderin. Generally they purtty much tell their own story.  I’ve always figured iffin they take a lot of explainin, they prob’ly ain’t well written.

WANDERIN MAN
AND HIS MUSIC

As I’m headin down the highway
straddlin my old hog.
I’m a workin on a hillbilly tune
later, I’ll jot it down in my log.

I’m not much of a singer,
but I can carry a tune.
I’m not all that sexy lookin
an the ladies no longer swoon.

But when I put pen to paper
I like to think that I excel
an those that don’t agree
kin all go straight to hell.

I ain’t lookin fer no opinions,
though my writin express’s mine
an if’n it gits my message across
that satisfies me jist fine.

I write about my journey
an the lessons I’ve been taught.
The times I got away
an the few times I got caught.

I write about the people I meet,
some good an some real bad,
those that I’ve had fun with
an those that made me mad.

The journey never ends,
new lessons every day.
Each day a few more verses
sayin what it is I got to say.

When I finish my day’s doins
an my campfires burnin bright,
I’ll work more on my tunes,
at times, long into the night.

When my gitar is in tune
an my words fit together jist right
if’n it’s jist me an all those ol stars
I’ll sing til near daylight.

I’m seldom on a stage,
I don’t sing fer no recognition,
it’ll never make me no money,
but that’s never been my ambition.

I sing to give voice to my songs,
so my message will have a chance
 to creep into yer heart
if’n yer a fixin to get up an dance.

Though I ain’t no angel
I’m a purtty decent guy
I always do the right thing,
leastways, I always try.

So the message in my tunes
mirrors my way a life,
they may mention several girl friends,
but likely never a wife.

One day when I meet my maker,
an they draw my final curtain,
no one will sing my praises,
of that you can be certain.

But they jist might sing my songs
an someone might be swayed.
Jist maybe some good will come,
of all these games I’ve played.

Aw shoot! You don't have to go gettin so apologizin for your good work. You just get this thing finished and published, and they'll be singing your songs forever. Mighty fine, I say.

As an old guitar strummer and amateur song writer I can definately appreciate this one Dick, nicely done and I am sure you will have many willing to sing your praise if that day should ever arrive.
