Write one poem of verse
it's the beginning
of the curse

In the potato chip commercial
they say

"You just can't eat one"

Same goes for writing
especially verse
In the door comes the curse
or maybe something worse

The challenge is to write
another then another
You'll find it either worth
or not worth the bother
If you keep on versing
sooner or later you
might start cursing
Because in your efforts
to be a poet
your peers will start
busting your azz
As you progress
it will or will not come to pass

But the honest critiquing
will be good for checking
and correcting
If you hang in there
you'll end up somewhere
like here
Writing in the den
with other poets mature and
immature women & men
The mature ones will
be a blessing
The immature ones will
also teach a lesson

You'll get better
or give into only writing the letter
You might want to write
a dear John to yourself
Saying goodbye to
writing period
That is if you are weak

If you stick to writing verse
and feel like you're good
The next challenge maybe
trying to get published
However after maybe
getting refused
You'll feel used and abused
maybe a little confrused

Get published one time
you'll try for a second time
If you're strong you won't quit
Quitters don't win
Winners fail over and over again
They keep on until
they force a win
