Poem Artwork

artwork: fake smiles and lullabies by Liliana Sanches

there was a time
when I believed
age was merely a number

and then I grew
…aged beyond my dreams
saw myself as some woman
in a plain without thunder

I painted the dirt green
fooling grass into the eye

I smoothed the sand clean
pretending life could not lie

but in the end
as my number grew
I learned with deep sadness

others need for me
decreased, as the past
passed by me, in
uneven handness

Profound and so true. I found that I have become "invisible" in a lot of ways as I grow older. it's not fun. Excellent and such imagery. Liz

a fine piece of how perceptions change as one ages...both the positive and negative aspects of it.

A very interesting view of life and how it can pass us on by and all we find is the view of not being needed...

a very nice expression of thought...

Your words and the total work soothe my furrowed brow
For I do enjoy living a life of seven score and more
Stressing the positive in all things never being sour
Staying healthyly alert with a mind to enjoy the soar

(With apologies.....)

Thank you for a wonderful bit of reassurance. - Bill

A deep sadness comes to me, like a life not worth living, just counting the numbers to the end.

very powerful lines: painting the dirt green. our pasts are our stepping stones to our future. cherish the moments, but dont allow the past to be your waterfall in life.

always, randy

Quite deep, Sara. Maybe we all need to conquer that past, and not let it, pass us by.

i often wonder, is life passing by us by, needing less of us, or is it the other way around ...

"I painted the dirt green
fooling grass into the eye

I smoothed the sand clean
pretending life could not lie "

great lines ...

Walking down memory lane can be a bittersweet experience. I prefer to leave the past where it is and move forward. Interesting write looking within.

Be safe,
Karen
