The town of Keqiao in Zhejiang province, China, is a centre of textile production. It has many businessmen from the Middle East, India and Pakistan. I walked into shops and saw beautiful curtains made of silk, chiffon and organza.
I remembered the Yeats' poem 'The Cloths of Heaven'. I'm sure you all know it: 'Had I the cloths of heaven, I would lay them at your feet. But I have only my dreams. Tread softly, as you tread on my dreams.'
Keqiao
Give me a house with a hundred windows,
a hundred windows needing a hundred curtains,
windows looking out on green hills
and misty mountains,
blue mountains nearest the sky like Tibet.
Keqiao, the Middle East of Zhejiang,
Chiffon, organza, men from India and Pakistan.
Curtains and drapes made of silk,
the folds of little hills stretching all
the way from Hangzhou and Kashgar.
this is so cleanly written, like Feng Shui, yet with the dragon's breath of colour washing through it. Delicate penstrokes, our Ken, but with a brush that is burgeoning and heavy laden with an eye for beauty...

It seems that China and the Mid-East countries have much more of an appreciation for silk and chiffon than the Americans, but also the slave labor at some of these textile mills and the "blood diamond" mines are evil practices, so perhaps more Americans do boycott these luxury items, as they should...I wonder of Yeats' poem, 'The Cloths of Heaven'...when he wrote it, what he had in his thoughts, surely some of the stories I have heard about the slave labor in the textile mills is contrary to Heaven in which we know is the other "H" word...Welcome Home, Kenny...it is one of life's better moments to be in your acquaintance...
