Pasta and Potatoes
It's often said in Dublin
Samuel Beckett had a slight Italian accent
and preferred pasta to potatoes.
In Venice, Monteverdi would refuse wine
and ask for a proto-pint of Guinness;
His madrigal, Waiting for Godot, is still unpublished
while Beckett's aria singing would madden Dubliners.
There's Irish pubs all over Italy now,
and Ireland's full of Italian restaurants,
still waiting for my stout, signore!
