Grandpa clock tolls gravely,
The house is full of dust and age.
We were young this morning
Now a cold wind is turning the page.
We walk around this old house
In the hereafter, I guess we're done,
No more children's laughter.
Tonight, we're dressed in silver,
The key rusts in the door;
Where has all the time gone, dear,
Did we sweep it under the carpet
Year after year?
Gammalt hus
Morfars klocka klämtar allvarligt,
Huset är fullt av damm och ålder.
Vi var unga i morse
Nu vänder en kall vind blad.
Vi går runt i det här gamla huset
I livet efter detta antar jag att vi är klara,
Inga fler barnskratt.
Ikväll är vi klädda i silver,
Nyckeln rostar i dörren;
Vart har all tid tagit vägen, kära du,
Sopade vi det under mattan
År efter år?

The sound of empty rooms! The separation anxiety with each child leaving........finally, "empty rooms". All of a sudden we find we don't know what to say to each other.
