New Arrival


Who filled you with wild desires
Who wore a tall pointed hat full of stars?

A lady in red, there in our Princess
suite king-size bed, a hotel chain, Ibis.

I'll be having a few jars with the lads
When he pops his head out at last

I'll be over the moon, uncorking
the champagne for the new arrival

A mother with a star belly so large
A dad who knows a spell or two

Everything we touch, it seems
turns to gold like King Midas

listening with my ear at your side
playing him some baby Grieg and Mozart

singing all around my poetry hat
inside the tent, and not out it, at last

fighting the midgies just like Da,
sleeping under the stars at Arrochar.
