In the belly of the wooden horse,
Where's Helen?
I tapped the typewriter keys
To produce lighter and lighter
Verse, I wasn't messin'
Exhausted by the lyrical effort
A pale Chopin, I didn't
Have a cigarette or a mention
In Poet's Corner,
Or Mount Parnassus,
Not even the Scottish Poetry Library
I would never see
The ancient city of Troy
Or shake hands with Leonard Cohen
No master song in my poems
But I rushed that citadel at last
With amazing power
You mandarins! You gatekeepers!
What's another Trojan Horse
Attack in your land?
