Chain In The Rain

Poem Artwork

Years ago I made a living as a silversmith.  My eye always catches glimpses of metal. Be it a gum wrapper, coin, or piece of jewelry.  And if its silver or gold(REAL), I will pick it up and throw it in my box of nonsense stuff. So I always check everthing out......no matter what.

Chain In The Rain

Gold plated chain, out in the rain
A snake on the yellow curb
There by itself, no claim to wealth
Tarnished and unpreserved

Link upon link, yet at the end
No ring, no hook, nor claw
Broken at ends, where strength depends
A line, from a circle....by flaw

A trinket defective, lost unsuspected
From the wrist it once adorned
A crippled snake, on a yellow curb
Corroding as it is born

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another take on this poem in prose
Chain In The Rain
In a parking lot this morning
I saw a piece of broken chain
Lying on the curb
No fasteners at the ends
Gold finish worn away in the middle
I thought, that chain is like me
All the links in the middle
Connected to eachother
And yet
At the other end
Connected to nothing
Links to nowhere
Lost Lost Lost
Like a soul worn away
The outer layer looks fine
Adequate....functional
But so very
Unable to connect
Pax
Turns out the bracelet I wrote about was a teenager's ID bracelet,that said the words "Wild Child" in the middle, somehow I found that symbolic.....and a personal message to myself.  Maybe ??
The security of continuity is what warms us. When it is broken and the link is lost...we give up. You know...
You are a true poet and I admire you immensely.
A chain of pot metal given a coat of golden to appear as a treasure symbolic of wealth. How many people do we know who are so much like that? All dressed up and putting on airs, but underneath they have very little to offer. Disconnected at the ends...I guess in a way many of us are, as I find my center in myself and the fray that spins around me at both ends in my world. Meaty verses with lots to chew on, in these wonderful offerings, Anita.
Take care,
Sherry
These are incredibly deep and emotive verses - you have captured so much here regarding personal connection and the desire for completion. I applaud you and thoroughly enjoyed both verse and prose. Ty, Panda ;)
It could be representative of the finiteness of our lives and how we live and die alone.
The tarnishing could be aging, and finding something lost, or cast aside, could represent how easily people can turn on one another and end relationships.
The links could be a metaphor for those we need to find to connect with to complete what we have been on earth to do.
I don't think you are wild either, but I do believe that you have several personalities battling for dominance. A PAX, QUEENIE, ALICE, etc.
I'm personally tending now towards ALICE IN WONDERLAND.
I did not digress!
Unity unwavering ...
Anita, two fine poems. But I disagree with you: You are not wild, but quite flowing words make you a fine poet. Victor
Very interesting poem. Keep your eyes open for the metal. One day it will stumble over gold, who knows.
Intriguing, enigmatic and soul searching write, that challenges us all to find the missing part of our own personal conundrum..
Look within.... is always a good place to begin the Quest..
