Dear Santa

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

My 2006 "letter" to Santa. I pray that many others will follow my lead in being certain that the less fortunate are able to enjoy a wonderful Christmas, as well. This is the ultimate season for giving and it is always better to give than receive.

Happy Holidays, one and all!

Dear Santa, I send you this humble request
Please forego my presents and give to the rest
I know many others who are more in need
And I am not one who shall wallow in greed
This season is not about boxes and bows
Or candlelit evenings, sheltered from harsh snows
Christmas is for giving to those whom we love
While sharing the blessings that came from above.

My life has been honored, beyond a mere gift
So, please spend your time giving others a lift
I have so much more than I thought I would own
And ask that you share the goodness I have known
Please give any items you had picked for me
To someone without a gift under their tree
Then, should they be grateful and begin to smile
I’ll know that my gesture was rather worthwhile.

Dear Santa, I pray you will heed my advice
And forego my presents; don’t ever think twice
There are many others, who need more than I
Please fulfill their wishes, while passing me by
Take care of my family, my neighbors, and friends
While knowing when this season finally ends
I will be quite thankful for those who enjoyed
The presents I modestly chose to avoid.

Dear Santa,
Please don't send any of my Austrian Crystal to that starving kid in Africa. I know he can't eat it anyway. (snicker)

A bit early--the frost isn't even on the pumpkin yet. But... what a kind and generous thought. Let's hope that the 21st Century is one where the haves share their wealth with those less fortunate. Based one what I've seen, starting with Bill Gates, it appears to be happening. Thanks for adding your two cents to the mountain of generosity.

I am sure St. Nicholous will pass your prayer on to our Heavenly Father. I thought your poem was beautiful and it was a great way of stating how much we all need to help one another.
God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving,
Lew
