Grown Apart

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

When friends or lovers reach a day when the bonds they once knew seem lost, it is painful and sad. That said, however, the topic is one that happens far too often in society, these days.

While this poem is entirely fictional, I thought I would tackle the topic.

Poem Artwork

A long time ago; several years, so it seems
Your heart resonated in my hopes and dreams
Each breath that I took was one stolen by you
As days became months and our friendship grew
Our destiny guided by a Divine force
We walked on, together, two friends on a course
Which has led us here, where we now stand today
Two friends left with oh, so little to say.

We once talked for minutes and hours on end
Without the need to ever stop and pretend
Our bond was as real as a friendship could be
Nothing in this world had mattered more to me
But, then, something happened and we grew apart
The bonds we had forged severed in the heart
The ties that once bound us grew reckless and free
Until there was no trace of you left in me.

A long time ago on a street with no name
Our lives came together, as one and the same
In no time at all, our hearts had joined as friends
But, I guess all good things in life reach their ends
Two people who once had so much to express
Have found themselves in a sure state of duress
While there may be feelings still left in the heart
We must accept the fact we have grown apart.

If only we knew before...if only we knew, but love is like a long stem rose with all its thorns, to hold it implies to feel the thorns too.

I does happen, but I don't like when it happens after only 2 years of marriage. THey don't even give it a chance and all the white wedding dresses and so much money spent on the wedding, then it falls apart in a few years. So sad a situation. Love should last longer than that when promising each other this at the wedding.

An excellent write, Jill, when a Poet can insinuate themselves into a situation and make it believable, they have penned a great poem. Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
