Ruth's Story

I composed five-line stanzas or quintains as an introduction to each chapter in the third novel of my series, titled "The Tan People." There are 22 poems in all. These are the five love poems.

 Ruth’s Story

Love in the beginning:

Restless, invasive musings of the mind

With trysts that stand the test of time

Secret rendezvous’ delightfully desired

Secret moments diligently conspired

One doth reason - hath love a season?

 

Love in a small town:

They were ideally matched, blended in tan

The bronzed lady with her handsome man

He the town hero – Her family ill fated

Ravaged by gossip but never deflated

Love resides – where twin souls collide.

 

Love in full flight:

An indefinable attraction of the mind,

A bolt of lightning, a target to find,

A quicksilver dance of pure delight,

Illuminating skies with iridescent flight,

Then striking with force – to shatter the course.

 

Love lost:

Loving you now might bring no tomorrows

God’s eternal schemes take away the sorrows

Each path we walk is just another phase

To learn some more, in the never ending maze

Until we meet again – on a Higher Plain.

 

Starting over:

The world is her oyster; she’ll travel many lands

Over the seas, through mounds of shifting sands

Where love is but a word and life an open door

Forever surging forward, never if – or before

Can she be remiss - and give love a miss?

I don’t think so – Love will always reign.
