Poem Artwork

The young man lies in his bed at night
And dreams of vestal virgins.
His will be a private delight,
As he leaves this world during the fight,
Or so he peacefully dreams.

All praise you'll give to Allah,
And yes, you'll do his bidding.
Of no measure is the life of an infidel,
For his days are devoted to sinning.

His fate is decided,
And his goals are simple ones.
Jews and Gentile, they must die,
As a result of his bombs and guns.

Across the sea, many miles away,
In a land where people are free,
A young man considers what he accomplished today,
If he's bettered his world, in some small way,
And silently prays for peace.

He has achieved the greatest wealth;
He loves his neighbor, as he loves himself,
And the very notion serves to calm his soul.
He cannot understand the mentality,
Of a culture that seeks no civility,
And he worries that there is no solution.

He longs for a world where there is no strife,
And he can't conceive of taking a life,
And he knows for such there is no reward.
But across the sea,
Lost in his reverie,
Another young man thinks differently.

He dons the vest
That carries the death,
Of those unlucky enough to be near him.
In his final act,
A cowardly attack,
He hopes that the body count will be high.

Please stop and think for a while,
And tell me how we will reconcile,
Two such divergent paths.
For many are the ways,
But narrow is the gate,
That leads to eternity.
And the stakes are high,
As the end draws nigh,
And we each will assume our fate.
