I've been painting fences
Somewhere outside of town,
Slappin' whitewash on the flatboards,
And doin' a little foolin' around.
The community said that we
Needed to pitch in, to help our little town,
It's funny that I don't see anyone else,
When I take a look around.
Where's Billy Joe and Bubba?
Where's Willie, Whitey, and Sue?
I can't even believe that they could think,
That I've got nothin' better to do.
I'll bet they're out on the speedboat,
Drinkin' cold beer in the hot afternoon sun,
I can see Daisy on the water skis,
Flyin' by and havin' fun.
It don't take much in Georgia,
To pass away the time.
Give me a lazy Sunday afternoon,
And, brother, I'll be just fine.
So I'm paintin' up a storm,
In the heat of middle June,
You'd think I was havin' a real good time,
Cause' I'm also hummin' a tune.
I guess maybe you can see,
That it just don't matter to me,
Cause when I'm kickin' around,
It'll likely be in my hometown.
Do me a favor though, would'ya?
If you pass down by the lake,
Tell Whitey to come and get me,
Cause' I'm lookin' to take a break.
If not... then I'll be painting fences,
Somewhere outside of town,
Slappin' whitewash on the flatboards,
Or, otherwise, just foolin' around.
If more would practice community pride, instead of drinking beer at the lake, our little home towns would be not only brighter, but safer as well.
Loved your humor and message!
