Poem Artwork

You know it seems a miracle to me,
That you are who you are today,
A young mother giving all you have;
My daughter living five days away.

I hear the pain that your voice conveys,
And I hear that boyfriend giving you praise.
He makes those promises that he’ll change his ways,
But you’re still not sure that it matters.

The hardest thing for me to do,
Was to tell you that the fault lies with you,
Even though your man’s drinking his brew,
His heart doesn’t know the doubt that yours does.

You were raised, my dear, for better than this,
And you can’t cast off your family, for less than bliss.
Go ahead and give him a great big kiss,
And watch your relationship blossom.

I’m not sure what it was that closed you,
I know that the influence never was supposed to,
But loud words were spoken by those who loved you,
And they didn’t lead you down the proper path.

Baby girl, I can’t bear the pain in your voice,
The pain that I hear above the noise,
Pain that preys and then destroys,
Love that would ultimately pass the test.

So I ask if you’ll do a few things for me,
First,  realize that you don’t need to be alone to be free.
Next, set that beautiful baby right there on your knee,
And contemplate the blessings that are yours.

Please know that you’ll always have a home with us,
A home full of love and abundant trust,
With no problems so big that we can’t discuss,
But you’ll find more happiness with a family of your own.
