Poem Artwork

He was bold as a youth,
But not overly possessed of style;
Rakish good looks and a body to match,
And that impossibly disarming smile.

The world was his in 78;
It could have been
Hollywood
,
If only he had not been too late.
But he married a girl,
And it was all wrong,
And something inside of him died.

"Why is it," he asked,
In 1979,
That the wrapping is better
Than what you find inside?”
”I’m making my living
In a deep dark coal mine,
And all that I am doing is trying to get out alive.”

By 82, the fight was long gone,
But an infant found a way,
Into his loving arms.
It was back to school in
California
,
Working weekends at a local fruit farm.

She was out the door,
In 84,
Nothing he did was ever good enough for sure.
The long tale of tears,
Could be told in years,
And by fall she came home with a new child.

  Where do you go,
When there’s no place to hide?
And tell him if you know,
How he can swallow his pride.
He’s lived and loved,
And he’s lived and lied,
And the best that he had,
Is dead deep inside.

 Do you know him, Mister?
Have you seen him before?
Do you know what he stands for?
Will you tell him the score?
He’s lost in a dream,
That’s taken all of his money,
Stripped him of his pride,
And broken his body.
He’s traveled the high seas,
And snow-capped mountain ranges too,
And she knows who she is,
Yes, he’s searching for you.
Will you pull him from the moor?
He’s falling fast,
And he can’t face again
Those days of his past.
Please blow life into his lungs,
His heart is beating too fast,
And at the rate it is going,
I know he can’t last.

He studies his face in the mirror a while,
And it’s funny, he thinks,
That his lips formed a smile.
And as the scars of his life,
Are etched in his face,
Those daughters of his,
Have finally taken their place.

And the cycle of life,
Rounds the universe once again,
And true love will see you
Through thick and thin.
So pull those who you love,
To your bosom at night.
Blow life deep within them,
In your hopes that they might,
Save the generations to follow,
And the cycle of life,
Will continue once again tomorrow.

Excellent, Frank. I enjoyed this. You've woven a tight poem here and it pulls your readers along from the first line to the last. Again, Excellent.
Warmest regards,
