Poem Artwork

Where are my friends of yesteryear?
I think of you from time to time.
And whatever happened to the dreams we had,
That said we would be together for life?

The times change like the seasons before us,
And we scatter like leaves on the wind,
And those closely held in our hearts are gone,
And I miss them,
Each and every one.

One taught me how to tie knots,
Another to sharpen a knife,
It was a friend who taught me how to make a hook shot,
And another, the hard knocks of life.

Later in life a friend taught me about love,
And what it is that a girl really wants,
And if only I could talk to him today,
You know, I would tell him thanks.

Where have they gone,
These friends of mine?
They are shadows
In my memory
Once so clear.
Oh the joy
That would surely fill my heart,
If suddenly,
They were all to appear.

But the truth of the matter
Is clear to me,
Now at an age
When I can really understand,
That this composite
I’ve become,
Because of them,
Has made me a better man.

What a wonderfully honest and introspective poem, Frank -- this is so compelling and so true. We are all composites of those we've known and loved, and we are better for having had them in our lives.
Excellent write.
Love,
CJ

A wise composition scented with aroma of gratitude and poetized with sublimity... Its rhythm and flow make it an excellent bouquet.

Thank You for posting this jewel titled, "Friends I've Known".

In admiration,

Dear Frank,

How right you are. The people we are blessed to know help to shape us. At times, I wish I could go back and thank each one. Your sentiments rang so true to me.

Blessings,
Sharon
