Deep within the ancient forest,
Air thick,
Heavy,
A mist that envelops all,
And I can feel the wonder of ages past,
And sense the spirits there, who say:
"Stop, and for a moment remember,
The life that has happened here.”
Moss covered trees,
Broader than nearly any I have seen,
Branches dropped long ago,
Like so many amputated limbs.
Reverence is required here,
And even nature seems to bend a knee,
For sounds are rare,
And ambiguous in the morning light;
A sanctum sanctorum,
Of evolutionary delight.
Her bounds are forever protected,
By cliffs rising from the sea;
She is a jewel atop coastal mesa,
Where contented spirits surely abide.
Stand with me here,
Perennial lover,
And like me,
Etch these beautiful images
In long-held memory,
And occasionally consider the time,
When together,
We will remember moss covered trees,
Shrouded in a heavy mist,
Standing at the edge of the sea.
Be safe,
Karen
