A Vision in the Night

Poem Artwork

Deeply in prayer was I,
A personal discussion
With Him who gave me life,
When visions were shared,
Not of this world,
And wildly memorable
Were these.

It is a mystery when it happens
Deeply in mind’s eye,
Perusing unfamiliar scenes
Which we must first identify:
Poignant visions buried deeply
within,
Skirting interdimensional seams.

It was a village street
Unlike any I have known,
With colors not observed
In my earthly home,
Hues not named,
For they’ve never been seen,
Painted in a brilliance
Beyond reds and greens.

Pristine
Was the feel,
With no soot, smog, or waste,
Not defiled was this community
In any observable way.
It was too perfect to have been built
In careless haste,
For the effort expended
Raised a sacred place.

The architecture was different,
Making ours feel so wrong,
The trees, the flowers, and the plants
That I saw,
Were never grown
On any earthly lawns.

I stared intently
At this unfamiliar scene,
And asked the questions
Which arose naturally,
But no answers could I find
In my critical mind
Which would lend logic
To this unusual dream.

I met a man
On this journey,
Dressed strikingly in a robe of white,
But still unsure
Of his role, am I,
So difficult was he to describe.

He knew me better
Than I know myself,
And his questions
Drove at issue’s core,
This elegant man
Of exceptional grace,
At peace on this distant shore.

I saw mountains
And brilliant seas,
Adorned in colors
So pleasing to me,
Accompanied by this man,
A sublime delight,
Dressed as he was
In brilliant white.

I cannot tell you
Just what it means,
Nor impart the lessons
Which were given to me,
For these special moments in life
Are so rare,
That I was at that moment,
Deeply immersed in prayer.

But the message
That I’m inclined
To share with you here,
Is that there is little
In the universe
For you to fear.
There are magnificent
Scenes for you to see,
And the kindliest folks
For you to meet.
And instead of the pitfalls
Of fear and sin,
Just close your eyes
And give thanks to Him.
Tell Him
That you love Him
And that you
Want to see it all,
Then take a breath,
Hold on tight,
Open your mind
And then let go.

The peace that comes with that show is indescribable. The thing I remember most about my "vision at night" was thinking questions and having the thoughts pop into my head in answer...always making such logical sense... You can read my poem "Life-Giving Light" for my story.

Reminds me a bit of scenes from the movie "Contact". I love your subtle rhymes, Frank (I know--I know... I say it all the time, but it's true). You make me want to see the same show right now-- only I doubt that's even possible. However, through your eyes, it seems a marvelous show indeed. --Charlie
