Possessed of a lust
To feel the heavens above,
Bursting at the seams of the Universe,
He had no quaint question of a life beyond,
Or of a God
Who had created it all.
Small-mindedness begins
With an egocentric view,
And a belief that we somehow
Understand.
If only we might gain an appreciation
Of all that we fail to know,
We might have full-hearted peace,
As he cradles us in His
Loving arms.
Take us to Arcturus, Antares,
And Aldebaran beyond,
To Sirius, Pollux,
Betelgeuse, and Riegel.
After these we can skip across
The moons of Saturn
As we dance our way back home.
Present no boring theories
Of nothingness beyond,
And no life
After this is one is done,
For even if one bears the mantle
Of a pessimist,
The overwhelming possibility
In the Universe,
Has, all cynicism, outrun.

On a truly star-filled night I love to look up and see how small I am because I see that all of those stars are there for me, and somehow...it helps me to "feel" the heavens above as it encloses me in its warm embrace.
I also loved the title of this piece as your poem is a perfect description of faith...especially the last stanza.
