Poem Artwork

There is a man who sits on the top of the highest peak;

The milky clouds wrap him up; the rosy racks hedge him in.

He holds the fragrance of virtue, wishing to transmit it to folks,

But the path is long—it's hard to go so far away into the world.

In his heart, full of melancholy, suspicion and doubt also hide;

In years already old, alas, he has accomplished not a thing.

A crowd moans ‘oh-oh’ and laughs ‘ha-ha’ at such a rattlebrain

Who stands still alone, remaining to be firm in his ‘allegiance.'

The way to respond to a myriad changes around consists in one's ability to remain unchangeable. . . Paradox? -- Why not to think about it. Cheers, alex

Self allegiance resists change. Those who cannot change are doomed to be left on their mountaintops of isolation. Those who can change, adapt and learn, are the wise mentors for the next generation.

This reminds me of something my dad told me a long time ago...two old men sitting on a park bench...same age...one is old, wise and has made his own way in the world and listened to his own heart...the other old man has listened and been swayed by others...and ignored his own heart speaking to him...wisdom and inner truth are lacking....
Be true to your own heart....what is virtue if it does not sit comfortably within our own skin?
