In the distance I descry the river’s bank—
The willows and poplars stand in silent grace.
Actually, I am a man of the common people
Who has never been familiar with the rites
And polite arts, but, as everyone knows,
A good rider requires a fine horse, as well
As a fine horse requires a good rider, in turn.
When it clatters off amidst a cloud of dust,
You know then for certain who is a winner
And who is the outsider in the chaos of strife.
