Poem Artwork

Have you ever heard of the lot

Of the praying mantis?

It angrily stretches out its claws

To impede the progress of a cart,

Unconscious of its inability

For such an unmanageable task,

But showing how much it thinks

Of its own superpower indeed.

So, what I am trying to tell you,

Be on your guard; be careful, man!

If you cherish a boastful confidence

In your own excellences

And place yourself in collision

With many others, you are likely

To incur the fate of the mantis. . .

I think the praying mantis got their name from the motion of their two front claws. They would hold them together as if they were praying. They are usually females, bites the heads of the male first before mating. Unfortunately...it does not discourage the male mantis to be part of the sacrificial game. Perhaps it's something of nature?

Great advice that arrogance often cannot see before it's too late.
