The right and the wrong, on the point

Of enjoyment, cannot be determined

According to the worldly viewpoint.

Nevertheless, what is doing nothing

To obtain it may determine indeed

What is the right and what's wrong.

Since perfect enjoyment is held to be

The keeping the body alive, it is only

By this doing nothing that that end

Is likely to be secured for a long run.

Let me try to explain this more fully:

See, Heaven does nothing and thence

Comes its serenity; Earth does nothing

And thence derives its boundless rest.

By the union of these two inactivities

Things are produced from nothingness.

How unapparent and vast is the process!

Things seem to come from nowhere;

How immense and imperceptible is this!

There are no any visible images of it!

All things are in their variety growing

From this 'doing-no-unnatural-things.'

Hence, it is said that Heaven and Earth

Do nothing and yet, there is nothing

That they do not do. But what a man

Is there that can attain to this inactivity?
