And before the young dragon Has emerged in the field, Ten thousand years of snakes Crawling in the mud and Swarming with themselves. Blowing out a candle distantly A thousand miles away Is simply nothing To shooting down a dragon For being roasted with relish. A watchdog barks at nothing, A million geese are hurtled With the winter headwind. Has a goose the Buddha's nature? Hush, Hush! What a goose you are Asking such a silly question! Stop cackling and stop barking Before you start to learn something!

I see silly riddles with no answers except the wind. However, those seeped in Buddhist tradition probably can fathom the logic. Sadly, I am to left brained to see that side at all.

An interesting thought-process. Reminiscent of a season in my young college years when the disciplines and fragrances of Buddhism held so much appeal for me. Buddha preached in the twelve divisions, each division full of purest truth.
East Wind - rain comes in the night
making all the forest fresh and new.
No sutra that does not save the living,
no branch in the forest not visited by spring.
Learn to understand the meaning in them,
don't try to decide which is valid, which is not.

The wordsmithing in fable style to bring home some good old fashioned Buddha thought is always enjoyable to read and contemplate. Far too little of such stimuli out there today, far too much Dick and Jane expectation.

Yes, life's diversity is ming-boggling, isn't it. Yet the Buddha nature is there, hovering in the wings, raising questions in our minds, as does this poem. Curiously enigmatic.
