Poem Artwork

It is the penetrating eye

That gives clear vision;

It is the acute ear

That gives quick hearing;

It is the discriminating nose

That gives discernment of odours;

It is the practised mouth

That gives the delight of flavours;

It is the active mind

That acquires knowledge;

It is the far-reaching learning

That constitutes great virtue.

The womb encloses hollow inside;

The heart has its spontaneous

And enjoyable initiations.

If their apartments were not roomy,

Wife and mother-in-law

Would be bickering all day;

If the heart had not its spontaneous

And enjoyable initiations,

All the mentioned above faculties

Of perception would be

In mutual clash and depravity.

I'll say thanks be unto God for the wisdom, the knowledge, and the understanding, along with the senses given unto us. So that we can write or do things that are good enough to blessing others soul.

Who is to say who has these faculties or not. The crazy mind may be the result of the last two lines. One would wish that all would have the clarity of thought described by the other lines. But all are not sharp and astute. Some are dull and dimwitted. Many are suckered into worthless schemes. Not all mothers and in-laws bicker.

Life would not be worthy without our senses!

What would we do without the enlivening senses to see and enjoy the world. But it is the inner senses of seeing, tasting, and the like that brings true vision and experience. John
