Not to be separate from one's primal source

Constitutes what we call the heavenly in man;

Not to be separate from the essential nature

Constitutes what we call the spirit and soul;

Not to be separate from the truth of reality

Constitutes what we call perfection in man;

Not to be separate from an angel as one's protector

Constitutes what we call the insight in man;

Not to be separate from Earth as the root

Of one's inherent instincts and surviving nature

Constitutes what we call the man's sensitivity.

Not to be separate from one's course as the gate

By which man enters into this inheritance,

Knowing as the prophecy given in change,

Constitutes what we call the enlightenment in person.

Not to be separate from benevolence as the source

Of kindness -- the source of all distinctions,

And propriety as the rule of all conduct,

And music as the idea of all harmonies, thus

Diffusing a fragrance of gentleness and goodness,

Constitutes what we call the everlasting lineage

Of all buddhas and bodhisattvas.
