For truth, as for the moon, Can never be proved -- It can only be pointed at. But truth is truth And overcomes Clever human views. It is given to man Only at rare moments To perceive the truth. . . And it is these moments That will survive, And not individual viewpoints. The most frightful consequences Can often lead one to conclusions Which are mere learned nonsense. �

Upon reading your poem you reminded me of Aristotle's view of the world. I believe that the world rested on the back of a turtle. People believed him and his nonsense because he was a learned man.

Yes, you have a good point here. Truth has its own integrity and doesn't need us for verification. Au contraire, we need the truth and are helpless without it. Look at the state of the world today without an abiding sense of the truth. Just pointing. . . well said.
