Frozen in Stone
We had the moon and the stars
At night to watch over us….
Winds ranged past the great
Monongahela, Allegheny, Ohio.
As free earth born spirits joined
By love in the flesh once more;
Warmed of the earth beneath
Giving children breath of life.
Greeting earth each sun together
Hunting bison deer, fishing rivers;
Gathering plants, herbs, growing
‘Three sisters,’ corn beans squash.
Walking with our ancestor souls;
Guided during thought devotion,
Strengthened by endless caring
Reborn through cycles of love.
Then death released spirit bodies
And earth embraced once more;
Not caught up in dream-catchers
By searching and seeking souls.
Our energy frozen ensnared in rock
Carved as memorials: as blind souls
Trapped here forever in silent stone:
Never more as free spirits to roam.
