"Smith, The English Chief"(Karena Series)

My babies are content,
they are thriving from happiness,
The Eagle flies circles as if protecting us.

Pocahontas speaks of the English,
she has visited their village
and brings peaceful words back to us.

"Smith", the Chief Of the English,
is having counsel with Chief Powhatan,
he brought fire sticks and a few men.

I feel a discontent amongst these English,
they carry war in their hearts,
whille we strive to have peace in ours.

It is a very dangerous time, many
Powhatan warriors and women
from other villages have been murdered and raped.

Smith, The English Chief, is approaching,
He looks at me and slyly smiles,
then returns to his men and they ride off.

I walk over to Chief Powhatan's dwelling,
"May I come in, Chief Powhatan?"
"Of course, Karena, enter please."

I begin to tell him of my fears,
and what I felt when Smith looked at me.
I felt chills, and danger right to my soul.

Chief Powhatan assured me
that Chief Smith, is trustworthy.
He wants peace with the Powhatan people.

I thanked him for his time,
for some reason I am still very uneasy.
I hold my babies tightly and pray to the Great Spirit for guidance and wisdom.

Upon awakening early the next day,
news has been sent to our village,
Another attack by the English to a neighboring tribe with much devastation.

Chief Powhatan and the elders leave,
they meet in a secret place
A place of safety and tight security.

I must begin to prepare for the worse.
It is inevitable that the English will come here
The Chief and Pocahontas must be protected. 

The Great Spirit will send me a message,
It is of utmost importance at this time,
That I am guided with the swiftness of the Eagle's flight, toward our fate.

During the evening hours,
There is a celebration of the Chief's return,
he brings good news and a peace plan.

I stand back and watch this display,
Somehow, in  my heart of hearts,
I don't believe that there will be peace!
