Ghosts -

'From Darkness to Light by Dr Audrey Coatesworth
The range of mountains was so high from above the lake was seen
Deep, dark, unfathomable depths
A place no human could have been
As if ghosts were in the shadows - shriekings as the strong winds galed
No light penetrated the valleys
There all semblance of plant life failed
There were ripples on the lake, as the wind across did blow
But nothing stirred the deepest depths
These were hidden from all below
No one had ever dared to venture into that forbidding place of gloom
It was as if the very earth had a will to bring them doom
One day an earthquake happened - suddenly, without a warning noise
The mountains tumbled with the force
And the lake then found its voice
As the pure water was released - the barren land was bathed
The water's rush was deafening
And nothing was left unscathed
But gradually quiet calmness came
The earth settled in place anew
Over the years the place was changed
Light was there and some plants grew.
The place became inhabited - as the ghosts and gloom had fled
What, once, had been a deserted land
Became a land that was well fed
Sometimes within our short lives - a fraction of time on this earth
Places within our deepest self - seem foreboding since our birth
Irrational fears from memories
Often when too young to know
Can cause isolation and great fears
We are too scared to show
But when the hidden place is opened
When the lake of tears is found
Then the real world can be seen
With its many colours - all around
Rainbows can arch over land
In the day the sun can shine
The darkest path can be in light
And those ghosts will not be mine
