Beyond Mercy

A poem from the book, ‘A Spiritual Journey’, by Dr Audrey Coatesworth

Beyond mercy's sight, I wandered far

No hand, no light, no guiding star

A bleaker place could not be found

Earth looked like barren ground

There roamed evil, undeterred

And true justice was never heard

Human rights skewed to tolerate

Criminals, thus, avoided fate

Famine raged, innocents starved

Food stored  lest profits halved

Mankind had free will to choose

Mercy could not her energy lose

'Until the lesson has been heeded

My intervention is not needed

I shall not look upon the earth

Until a sign I have some worth

But I will send from high above

A fragile child whose soul is love

Showing evil, loud and clear

It can't destroy someone so dear'

So into darkness a baby came

I cannot tell you of its name

Girl or boy, no one can know

Sent to suffer, the path to show

Man allowed to 'make his bed'

Lets evil the same pathway tread

Pain - its food, its drink, its life

Causes the world to endure much strife

Lust of body and within the mind

Jealousy, envy, greed we find

True love lost as dark clouds rise

Heaven set to be evil's prize

Yet mercy will awake one day

'That child is strong

It will find a way'

'Well done my child, you awake me

In my nightmares I could see

Your journey, it is now complete

Your suffering was an awesome feat

But candles flicker in the dark

Your sojourn already makes its mark

I can now my energy send

So your legacy will have no end

More lights will glow until at last

Earth's darkness will be in the past

The brave and good this story tell

While evil goes one way - to hell'

When Mercy became reunited

With the child, a light ignited

Not an overnight affair

It took a millennium to get her there

But, at last, she was not needed

As the message of the child was heeded

But the change, gradual and slow

Was soon obvious, all could know

'Write your journey, hurt no more

One day we'll meet at heaven's door

This message I give for you to tell

There is a heaven, there is a Hell

What you sow, so you must reap

Everyone must their actions keep

The responsibility for eternal fate

Is yours-

You choose - to love or hate'
