Armchair advice is a poem from 'Glimpses'- the new poetry book by Audrey Coatesworth.

Poem Artwork

Armchair advice

'I just love the kitchen's aspect

Looking out to lawn so green

But polished marble tops

Are a nightmare to keep clean'

'That extra bedroom would be useful

And a study is a must

But, the old oak floorboards

Would let in a lot of dust'

'I don't think, if I were you,

This purchase I would make

And if you look more closely

That 'original feature' is a fake'

'Yes, the countryside is beautiful

But, think about the snow'

'This property could be ideal

But you really need to know

There is possible permission

For a ring road over there

The trees will probably hide it

And some people wouldn't care'

'The river has been known to rise

But, never quite to here

I would walk away, right now

Before you shed a tear'

I'm a very good adviser

To those searching where to live

I share my common sense

Helpful comments to them give

They take no notice, as

My voice they do not hear

While watching TV programmes

I travel far and near

See people, houses, lifestyles

Some decisions make me shout

'Don't do that, you'll regret it

Once you sign, you can't get out'

aw, yes. true to life...down to earth poem, which I love. Folks in this world rarely want advice- but rather complete agreement. How much heartache would be spared if only folks would humbly seek out advice with an open mind before they jumped, and then made a decision which best suited them?
Well written poem in my opinion- enjoyed reading it!

I like a good poem with a lot of good advice built-in. I watch a lot of shows on the home channel. I'm really disgusted when stupid people tear out beautiful architectural elements in older homes to replace them with their idea of the "latest" fad.

My mother detested our home with all oak floors. And you are absolutely right about peoples' obsession with marble countertops and stainless steel appliances even when they don't even cook anymore and just to go out to eat every night. What a waste of resources on spur of the moment decisions! No wonder so many people are house and car poor.

I thought you were going to come up with a surprise ending. That you told yourself not to get it, but you got it any how!
