This was an experience I had when I was about 11. I believe he was an angel, see what you think.

Poem Artwork

One weekend when down at the beach
I went for a swim in the sea
I liked to try and jump the waves
when out at sea I felt so free

Then came along a big freak wave
and crash, came down on top of me
then to learn the might of the sea
I found myself no longer free

Gripped by the current no way out
spun round and round so very fast
how could I know which way was up
maybe this day would be my last

They say that when your close to death
your life flashes before your eyes
Its true my whole life brought to mind
before my imminent demise

Strangely though it was so peaceful
and I had no fear of dying
just wonder at what might come next
as I had to give up trying

Then a horrible thought occured
my peace and wonder shattered
as my family came to mind
and then their cries of grief I heard

Just then I rose to the surface
and standing next to me a man
who asked whether I was alright
and in a daze I said "I am"

Now do you believe in angels?
I believe that he was one
when I turned to say my Thankyou's
the kind man who saved me was gone

DEFINITELY, AN ANGEL! IT WAS NOT YOUR TIME TO LEAVE THIS WORLD AND GOD SEND AN ANGEL TO SAVE YOU AND TO LEAVE YOU WITH A MEMORY THAT YOU WOULD NEVER FORGET AND WOULD BE A FOUNDATION FOR YOUR FAITH'S GROWTH. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...

Always have believed in angels, though never have worshipped them, as some do. They are God's servants.
I have no problem believing that your rescuer was indeed an angel. I'm sure they help us countless times in our lives; we just don't recognize it when they do.
The best thing is knowing that God is the one who created them and gives them positions on earth to help us.
I enjoyed reading your story-poem. Thanks for sharing!

Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
