A personal reflection

Poem Artwork

People ask me ‘ Where do you come from?’

‘Your accent sounds cute, from which foreign lands?

A difficult question, my dear home is gone

The past feels a dream, a road lined with friends

I left my father with tears in his eyes

I’m married to jobs - I stop to pretend

To find a fortune between hot jungles and ice

On the road, sweet ladies healed my broken heart

I’m roaming the planet, as long as fuel lasts

But work and my silly nature do pull us apart

Spending my time here n’ there, in a day-dreaming cast

Life feels like a movie, without popcorn and coke

Fulfilling excitement, strength, wonder and joke

Heading toward a horizon, placid and free

I must leave behind my treasure grove tree

Sweet childhood strawberries and mushrooms are gone

That’s why it’s so hard to tell where I am from

I understand.
You picked this life, but I think you are happy with it.
But even though you pretend not to know your roots anymore, I am sure you do. they will always be somewhere deep in your heart.
Good one.

Funny Franz: People never are foreign until they step across the border (or sometimes even the street). And it seems that for a person who knows how to adjust, anywhere can be home.

Oh what a lovely revelation, Franz!
This fine piece of introspection shows not only your many facets,
but a type of life many see only in the daydreams at their
high-rise desk.

The past feels a dream, a road lined with friends

Marvelous poem, Franz, and having been a traveler on my job most of my life I can relate very well to it. But it is an adventure, too, never knowing where the road will lead next.

Franz, you are a Wanderer...much like the ones in Storm's era...which is expressed very well in this poem. You show your moment of nostalgia and regret, but also the wise acceptance of your choices and their consequences.

Where you are from is not of importance;
It's who you are and where you are going is.
