The rain forests of Borneo are stripped of their timber. People, such as the Penan, are an integral part of the living jungle and have nowhere to go.
With them dies a part of human heritage, a part of our soul.

Vanishing Soul

Dense fog combs through my jungle’s roof

A remnant of virgin lost time

Aloft opaque, elusive of proof

Lost mirror of history’s crime

Its verdant canopy is glutted with due

Where silent mysteries abundantly dwell

Tales of giants, snakes appear in a ghostly hue

These stories the surviving few tell

As trees are chopped for tables and doors

To paper money of ugly foul smell

Both earth and soul are stripped of its gold

A broken virgin with nothing to sell

Whilst villages are left and reluctantly sold

The soil is shaken and many plants die

The past’s hidden treasures cannot unfold

No soul is left to protest, and cry

This poem is truly heart-breaking. I know how precious Earth and all its beauty is to you. Humans are greedy pigs. ~ Sara

Profoundly composed, and lyrically rhyming...these are
some potent ponderings, Franz!

This poem drove me to tears. As Ed said: just the trees alone, which we need if we're going to survive, but the civilation lost; what irreverance to humanity. And I cry because I don't see an ending to such destruction. You gripped my very soul. Good work.

Carmen :-)

it's a shame how our world is gradually losing its natural wonder ...

a powerful and thoughtful poem ...

Just the loss of the trees themselves is a travesty, let alone the loss of civilizations that have lived amongst those trees for centuries...well thought out and put, Franz...Peace, Ed & Rufuz

Franz this is a powerful poem that brings home the sense of an ever dying planet due to the choices man has made.Sometimes they are wrong choices due to ignorance or greed, and mostly in the name of progress.

This very beautiful sad poem is a precursor to what we all face eventually because man refuses to make the choice of knowing when we have enough , and living friendly with the land.

Well conveyed...Rich cultures exterminated and/or homogenized in the name of Progress, or rather Greed.

I enjoyed.
