Such a shame, world hunger.....

Poem Artwork

I saw her long before she
crossed the street
worn out dress,
shoes tattered upon her feet.
She didn't look up, left or right
As she hurried in her pathetic flight.

She was a child of the world,
long since forgotten.
No place to call her own
dirty face, head hung low,
hair hanging in such disgrace.

Many watched her in her rush.
Thinking how her hair needed a brush.
They saw her appearance first,
but nothing beyond
not her hungry belly,
or the tears that stained her face.
As she hurried on at a desperate pace.
Cold had settled so deep with in....
she thought never to thaw again,
her arms wrapped around her....
hoping to find some warmth,
she continued on in haste.

I heard a voice next to me
saying, "can you believe
sure am glad shes not anybody to me"!
They never though.......
pass their needs,
never stopped if but to see.....
or give her a coin perhaps to feed.

I watched as she walked further on,
others moved so as not to touch,
this child no one cared for much.
I wondered how far she would go
and wanted to bring her out of the cold,
I wanted to touch her little face
wipe the tears from her eyes,
offer her warmth and food
and so much more.
Things I took for granted........
hadn't been her fair share.
Did no one in the whole world care?

I reached out to clasp her little hand
and grasp it tightly with in mine.
I lifted her little face
and wiped her tears away.
I walked with her to get some food,
and took her to my home.
She sank down in a bubble bath
and washed the dirt and odor away.
This child, no one wanted
This child, so lost and alone
Could so very well have been my own!
As she sank down that night to sleep
I said a little prayer....
Thank you Lord, for allowing me to bring her home.
Thank you that you gave me compassion to even care,
Thank you Lord, lest I be there!

To many times people turn their backs on the starving children of the world. Bless you for you compassion.

So sweet the conclusion to your tale. Unfortunately, so many die without a benefactor to save them, alone. Reminds me of my poem, Poignant.

Such a shame, world hunger.... and far too much apathy. But such a blessing for compassionate people like you, Tina. This is quite a powerful piece and message.
