Poem Artwork

sometimes I go to the dungeon
of my mind
hidden and reflecting unvoiced
turmoil within myself toward the future
nothing in my past to reflex on
it was what it was
over and done, kaput
still it could have been better
naw, I’ve lived far too long either
to be disappointed
or fulled with hope
I’m not here to morn my destiny either
sometimes these weary thoughts
rack my brain
lost as I am inside my nomadic thoughts
I sit rock-like
in a stupor of silent hopelessness
I guess I should regret
the madness of yesteryear
that was a fitful sputtering launch
toward what would prove to be
extraordinary strange road to
a vision of a vague light
at the end of the two lost decades
and now
in these my declining years
no matter how hard I try I find myself
looking back
filling my thoughts
with scenes
of those vulnerable souls
of living men and desperate women
eh, a mind cannot stop thinking
of the smoldering ones
I close my eyes
not for the first time
and whisper
thank goodness I survived

You movers and shakers life a "highway man" type of life. You have never been shy of the pen and paper, or of helping me. I must thank you.

Love ya!

The last line tells us a lot. You burned the candle on both ends for too long, but somehow, someway you survived keep telling us that you don't know why or how. Maybe just write this, a poem.

What is in our past, shapes what we are in the present. It's a part of us, and we are what we are because of it.our past gives us our strength today. Nice reflecting write.

I don't think there's anything wrong with thinking about the past, present, and the future. Analysing ourselves is all we do for as long as we live. Only people with Dementia or Alzheimer would not have memories of the past.

But no big thingy! Nobody is perfect anyway! Everyone makes mistakes but I just won't let my past mistakes affect how I look at my present or my future. The past is gone and done with, mistakes and all, and like you've said, I survived! And that is good enough for me already.

"Nomadic thoughts", the perfect expression for the kind of thinking that can take hold of old men such as we are. The mind roams back and forth between the present and the past. You have a way of doing it that is most intriguing and deferential to the person you have become, surviving and then some.
