It’sfive o’clock in the morning now
The birds are chirping outside
I am breathing and laughing and wonder how
I got this far on this crazy ride
Oh my youth it was spent yes so foolishly
Although the studies got done
Dressed in fashions which now seem goolishly
Admit I had a whole lot of fun
Some things I did I regret today
A youth all lost in the clouds
Sure liked that song, “I Did It My Way”
Loner didn’t care much for the crowds
Getting sleepy past five in the morning now
Random thoughts running ‘round in my head
I am breathing and laughing and wonder how
I am upside not downside instead
We should all do it our way or we would never learn a thing...
It is how we find our self...
I never cared for crowds either so I can completely
relate to this :)
Aren't we grateful we made it through the crazy ride? :)
Great poem Jane; I can relate to every verse, each line.I do the same thing: have random thoughts during the wee hours of the morning, and sometimes, they are not so bad.
Thanks again for this stroll "down memory lane": the fashions, the things we wish we hadn't done, but weren't they fun at the time?
Continued success-

On the blank canvas of our imagination, Jane
we put brushstrokes of.....hopes and fears.
Some in vibrant colors...others dull...scary hues.
In our quiet early morning moments...thoughts come
randomly and fast...not really time to rationalize...
embellish...select...reject them and...they become
convincingly detailed...over painted.
And they're stubborn...hang on the walls of our minds
and thus...we are never far...from their influence.
The early morning dawn...create particularly vivid...
...gripping images. But it is a FANTASY. Sounds familiar
but pure...fantasy...so try not to consult them...replace
them with some...more reliable wall paintings you have in mind.
You are the painter of your own mind. After a glass of water
with squeezed half of lemon...cleans the mind and body...start
your painting again. And smile...keep smiling...You are
the Artist!
With warm regards Isabella.
It’s always the wee hours’ of the morning when regrets or troubles seem the most bothersome. I am so glad you felt upside. What a wonderful poem reflecting on ones life…
Dear readers, this is my third book of poems, and inside are a special collection of what have turned out to be not only MY personal favorites, but also the favorites of many of YOU. Some of these have never been available in print before...
This is a book of free verse poetry that addresses the seven main tests in life and offers some sensible solutions to passing those tests with minimal discomfort.
It is how we find our self...
I never cared for crowds either so I can completely
relate to this :)
Aren't we grateful we made it through the crazy ride? :)

I too look back on my youth and have some regrets. No matter the mistakes I made or the good things I've done, I've Did It My Way.
