I had a garden that I loved
I worked the soil with hands well gloved
The plants took root I was amazed
And daily at their beauty gazed


Tending my garden out of joy
One day a little girl and boy
Asked if they could pick maybe some
To take home to their loving mom


They picked some then they made their way
Skipping and holding this bouquet
To give their mom a lovely gift
Which I knew would give her a lift


A few days later came a knock
The lady came from down the block
With tears in her eyes thanked me for
Floweres her children picked before
 

I noticed that she had a cane
Found out that blindness was to blame
She told me how the flowers smelled
Her children gave her she had held


Aromas wonderful she said
She felt and saw them  in her head
She talked a while then had to go
I went back where my flowers grow


It's not at all in what we see
That all perceive nature's beauty
These chldren taught me something keen
That beauty needs not to be seen
