The history books might hold back information.......the elderly don't.

Help those who cannot help themselves Like books upon forgotten shelves They all have stories to be told Especially the worn and old Take time to listen to their tales There's much to learn it never fails They've been through times we've never seen And places that we've never been No better teachers can be found Than those who've really been around Experience they will impart To those who have the humblest heart No Masters or a Phd Will ever teach these things to me That wisdom given by the old Is worth more than it's weight in gold Someday we'll be the ones to tell Of these days in which we do dwell We'll share our knowledge with the few Sharing the truth they never knew Jane Noponen Perinacci

I am very very blessed to often be the person some elderly folks come talk to as others slip away. Some may say they've heard it all before- but the elderly can shine when someone listens. Being there is a good karma bath, and much more.

I love listening to their stories
and they love the kindness of interest
too often elderly are not recognized
to know wisdom, but they surely are

This is a beautiful poem, Jane. You are right, experience shared is shared knowledge. I fear we are becoming a readerless nation, maybe even the world. Computers seem on the verge of putting printed books into the extinct category. I hope that is not the case. ebooks just isn't the same as opening up a book to read..
