There's a space between my curtains from which I gazed out
I see a few tree branches nearly bare of leaves now
Turned brown waiting to drop to the ground
I go out to walk in the crisp air.....crunching sound
Beneath my feet
The sky is grey today as I look about
Greys and browns, crunching sounds, cool air
Blowing my hair and the scarf I wear
I look towards the lake .....waves cresting
On rocks they beat
Ah! What do I see as I walk....a rose bush
Red contrast against the browns and greys
I bend to smell it's fragrance a cold wind
Lifts the fragrance to fill my soul
A scent so sweet
That space between my curtains from which I gazed out
Has been the finest invitation received
To
Stop
And
Smell

Don't we all need to do that... The air has turned cold, and the miniature roses, retreating the August heat are back blooming, framed by a lavish display of yellow mums...yummy honey!
Very clever, Jane, the way you took the reader on a typical stroll in the crisp, cool air of Autumn. Ahhh . . . but it wasn't such a typical stroll after all the reader(me) realized when he finished the poem, Stop and smell the roses, indeed.
