I already dread a 'wat'ry' ground ... I equate it with a 'wint'ry' ground, also wet and cold - my father used to tell me a story of two blizzards which met over Lake Ontario in 1913 and turned into a hurricane - it caught thousands unaware and for weeks after the lake thawed bodies washed ashore. The Great Lakes have a ghastly history for sailors ... nicely penned.
Have read a great deal with regards that ship, heading for Detroit with a full load of, I think, coal ore...this is a fine remembrance of that fateful day & the loss of fine ship & crew...may they find peace in their watery graves...-e-

This is very sad, but even so it is beautifully told, Jane. You held to the concept that the unrelenting wind and tumultuous waves sent the grand ship and its crew to the bottom of Lake Superior to their deaths, one and all.
