This brings back vivid memories, Jane. I was raised on a farm and had my own little hobby one down in the valley until "development" forced us away. Love and best wishes,
My childhood exactly! I sure hope kids these days get to visit farms like we did. Unfortunately, so many family farms are gone along with all those wonderful experiences when we ran wild with our cousins and friends on their farms.
Way back then I remember reading a story--I think it was in grade school--when we lived in the city, about city kids who thought that milk "grew" in a bottle. At the time I thought, how strange. Here in Houston, our zoo has a small "farm" section where city kids can interact with, feed and pet, farm animals. But it's not the same as running wild on the farm, jumping into a haystacks, fishing in creeks and other dangerous activities like stepping in cow pies. ;-)
Never had visits to the farm like that. I was strictly a city boy in my youth. It was only later, in my travels, that I came across village life and loved it. What a wonderful poem. John
