How the past can come bite you in the ass!

Poem Artwork

That train I used to ride
Coming at me I see
Wanting to run and hide
Someone is just like me

She's on that train I rode
It's coming at me fast
I scream but no one knows
That train carries my past

I guess your past caught up with you. Now, that phrase makes sense.

I could tell you about a wicked adventure that met me on a train.
But I would probably get barred from ever posting again. Of course, I was young then--and quite gymnastic...

a superb write, our past follows all of us, but should not foretell our yet to comes

I can picture you waking up screaming!

Lately I've been dreaming rolling over and crushing things like little kids, pets… etc. When I get someone to look, nothing is under my elbow being crushed even though I think I feel it.

Last night I rolled over and crushed a devil's food cake muffin with chocolate frosting. I could smell it. But when my helper came and straightened out my arm, there was no squished cake and frosting on it. I do recall eating one before going to bed the night before.

As you can see, my dreams/nightmares are not near as intense as yours. ;-)

Jane, this is a positively great poem as we all have our own personal "trains." I really, really like this offering from you.

I like the train of thought in your poem.

My train's a commin',
it's traveled from afar.
It carries my past,
stowed in the "baggage" car.

A most meaningful metaphorical offering, Jane. Love and best wishes,

A surreal acceptance of a personal metaphor to poetically describe the effort some take to run away from their past, or try and just avoid their past, only to find without the past, it's difficult to fully appreciate the present. As the subtext of your poem asks of the reader, lessons are forever finding ways to give us a flash redux of past experiences as we age, some thinking they're getting away from that which was uncomfortable, only to find without such memories, comfort might go unappreciated.
