Yes, I have things like that too! Makes me into a time traveler: going back in time to a previous life of youth and adventure. Looking at that thing again as if time never pushed me ahead of myself.
As most of us do as we age, you've found your special object of remembrance worth keeping. I often think about what I would keep. Most likely my climbing gear, as the many days I spent relying on Nature and my instincts to achieve my goal.
I remember those windup clocks. And, the cheap plastic electric one that I pawned for $2 worth of gasoline at a gasoline station when I ran out of gas with no money. In retirement, I no longer need an alarm, but rely on large LED lights to tell me what time it is all through the night and morning.
I can see the charm in that brass clock. A timeless classic! Something to keep and cherish, unlike the throwaway ones of today.
Some things never get "old," like golden promises and genuine love. A fine ode to a fine clock and what it brings to your mind, Jane. Love, peace, and best wishes to you,
A further collection of poems, many from years in the Middle East, but also the California San Francisco and Central Coast areas (Santa Cruz, Carmel, Big Sur, Berkeley, etc.).
I can see the charm in that brass clock. A timeless classic! Something to keep and cherish, unlike the throwaway ones of today.
